I’ve always told my friends that I am a “no judgment circle”. I just never let on that the circle never extended to include me.
Don’t we all do that? I think so.
We muster up, we have so much, compassion and care and forgiveness for others. We find and give empathy and sympathy; the well of mercy and pity never runs dry…for others.
But for ourselves? Oh, the ugly things we think and feel about ourselves and say to our own ears: “You’re so stupid, so foolish. Don’t you know any better? Didn’t you learn anything? Failure. Loser. Creep. Patsy. Ugly. Filthy (not in the good way). Weirdo (not kindly). What a waste of a mind. No-talent awkward freak. You are worth nothing; you are nothing. Nothing.”
If someone else told us that we would call that person a bully or an abuser because that’s exactly what it is: bullying and abuse.
Extend that circle. Make it bigger, wider, and deeper. Grow it. Build it. Reconstruct it.
Extend that no judgment circle to include you because you are so deserving of its embrace.
